Hosted by the Insurance Information Network of California and L.A. LIVE, the Battle of the Bartenders® will team up the California Highway Patrol , the Los Angeles Police Department and bartenders from L.A. LIVE restaurants and bars to demonstrate how party hosts can serve quality non-alcoholic drinks to help keep their guests safe on the ride home.
The event pits bartenders against each other to develop the best original non-alcoholic drink. Beverages are judged on presentation, creativity, taste and simplicity. The contest will kick off at 4:00 p.m. today at the ESPN Zone L.A. LIVE. KYSR 98.7’s Darren Rose will broadcast live from the event and interview bartenders as they compete.
Representatives from law enforcement, the insurance industry and sports will judge the drinks. Recipes will be available following the event at www.battleofthebartenders.org.
Alcohol-related crashes resulted in 1,263 deaths and 26,058 injuries in California in 2009, according to the CHP. In Los Angeles County alone, 220 lives were lost and 6,972 people injured in alcohol-related collisions.
“The Battle of the Bartenders® is more than competition. It’s a reminder to holiday hosts that by serving interesting non-alcoholic drinks, they make it easier for their driving guests to say no to alcohol,” said IINC Executive Director Candysse Miller.
“For designated drivers, the holiday parties don’t have to start and end with club soda,” said Michael Roth, AEG’s Vice President of Communications. “These non-alcoholic drinks will put the fun back in the festivities for those responsible for driving their friends home.”
